BJP to tap youth ahead of polls
■ Mega convention organised to target first- time voters
With an eye on the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP is organising a ‘ mega convention’ to tap the ‘ youth power,’ in particular the first time voters, where the party top brass, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will share tips with the youth leaders on how to strengthen the support base among the target votebank.
The youth, including the first time voters, are considered one of the biggest support base for Mr Modi and had voted more than the national average during last general elections.
The BJP is holding the national convention of its youth wing - Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha ( BJYM) on October 27 and 28 in Hyderabad. The venue was chosen with an aim to reach out to maximum number of youths in the region, where the BJP is trying to increase its overall support base.
The party top brass will finalise the agenda for its youth leaders for the upcoming electoral battle, including Assembly polls in five states.
Apart from electoral calculations, youths figure prominently in the BJP’s poll strategy and assist the sangh parivar cadre in reaching out to the masses. They are also included in election related activities, including spreading the party’s message through the social media.
Keeping in mind the perils of wrong information or fake news over social media, the BJYM, has also decided to verify all the twitter handles being used by its state units, state unit chief and office bearers till the block level. The party has so far verified twitter handles of 20 of its state units.
“The BJYM is the youth’s voice and any fake news or wrong information spread through fake twitter handle using the party or any party worker’s name would demean the organisation. Therefore, all twitter handles related to the yuva morcha are being verified,” said the national convenor, BJYM’s information technology and social media committee, Devang Dave.
