Lucknow: Former BSP MLA Haji Alim was found dead in his house in Bulandshah­r under mysterious circumstan­ces. The body was found in the bedroom with a pistol lying nearby. District SP Praveen Ranjan said that the case could either be a suicide or murder.

The body was found in the bedroom with a pistol lying nearby and blood splattered all over.

Haji Alim, according to reports, had returned home around 2 am on Wednesday and went to his room.

When he did not come out of his room till 11 am, his family members began calling out to him. The family members then sent in a servant through the ventilator to open the door.

When the door opened, Haji Alim was found lying on the bed with his pistol and empty cartridges lying beside him.

The family members initially claimed that the former legislator had died of heart attack.

SP Praveen Ranjan said that the case could either be a suicide or a murder.

◗ Haji Alim has been one of the more controvers­ial politician­s. In 2013, his third wife had been murdered by his son from his first wife. The accused son is lodged in Tihar jail. His fourth wife is in a hospital in Gurgaon.

He said that it was only after the post- mortem report is received, that further investigat­ions will begin.
