No entry boards a cause of worry for BJP in UP

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The ‘ no entry’ boards for BJP leader that are mushrooming in various districts of Uttar Pradesh are now becoming a major cause for worry for the ruling BJP.

What was seen as an exception till now is becoming a rule with an alarming regularity. The local people are putting up boards asking BJP leaders not to enter their villages for various reasons.

The development, which signals towards a growing resentment at the grassroots levels, has left the BJP worried. MLAs and MPs have been asked to spend time in their constituencies but the lawmakers are in no mood to face their voters.

“When we are confronted with issues like reservation in promotion and the overdrive on OBCs and Muslims, we have no answers. It is safer to stay away from the constituencies till the tempers come down,” said a BJP MLA from the Terai region.

In Amroha district, these boards are in response to the use of force on agitating farmers in Delhi on October 2.

In Bahraich, the boards ask BJP leaders to stay away or face the local people’s ire for the lack of development in the area.

In Kannauj, the ‘ no entry for BJP’ boards have been put up by upper castes that are protesting over reservation in promotion.

Earlier, when the Unnao rape scandal rocked the headlines, posters asking BJP leaders to stay away from their areas had been put up.

Similar reports have been trickling in from Hamirpur, Azamgarh, Shamli, Farukkhabad and several other districts.

The heat of Gujarat, where migrants from UP and Bihar are under attack, is also being felt in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency.

A newly formed group called UP- Bihar Ekta Manch has put up posters which says ‘ Narendra Modi Banaras Chhodo’ ( Narendra Modi, Quit Varanasi). The group has also asked the Gujarati people living in Varanasi to leave the city within a week or face consequences.

Varanasi SSP Anand Kulkarni, when contacted, said that the group would face action for issuing threats and attempting to disturb the social harmony.

As the local people go on erecting the no entry boards, the local administration trails them and uproots the boards.
