Reshma ousts second seed

Top seed in the Under- 16 category, Bhakti Parwani defeated Ishika Chakma 6- 1, 6- 3

Second seed Saniya Singh was beaten by Reshma Maruri in the Under- 16 category at the Fenesta Open Junior National Tennis Championsh­ip at the DLTA complex in New Delhi on Tuesday.

It was a tough match, which Reshma turned around in her favour as she recovered from a first set loss to beat Sanya Singh 4- 6,6- 2,6- 2.

Reshma later spoke about her win,” I am very happy to beat the Second seed. It was good experience as I was down 1st set but I just thought of giving my best and kept pushing myself. I hope to do well in the coming matches.”

While the top seed in Under- 16 Bhakti Parwani had an easy win over Ishika Chakma with a 6- 1,6- 3 win.

“I won my second round today 6- 1, 6- 3 and I am looking forward to continue to give my best, play my best and I am confident about the next matches” says Bhakti.

Boys Under- 16 top seeds had smooth sailing as the seed one Divesh Gehlot beat Arjun A. Kundu 63,6- 3.

Divesh said, “Today’s match was good compared to yesterday and I am just hoping for the best. After every match its getting tougher and tougher. I am hoping and giving my best.”

The second seed Sushant Dabas had an easy outing as he thrashed Ayushmann Arjeria 6- 0,6- 1.

Sushant said after his win, “I felt really great today . The match was good, because he was playing from the baseline without moving and my strategy was to play top spin ball as not to make him hit big shots. It worked and I won. I am expecting a great performanc­e tomorrow too.”

Vaishnavi Adkar the top seed in the girls Under 14 category had to put up a fight as she beat Chandini Parikh 4- 6,64,6- 4.

After the difficult match she added, “I am very happy to win this match I did not expect to be so tough. But she played really well even I never gave up. I gave my best.”

The seed two in Under 14 Renee Singh had a smooth sailing as she beat Tanushri Pande 61,6- 2. She said, “It wasn’t a tough match but she played really well. I was trying to play really good and keeping the ball in. Today’s match was all about keeping the ball in.”

In the Under 14 section, Udit Gogoi was confident as he took to the court and beat Mohil Lolitkar 6- 2, 6- 2. “I played well today, I had a good match with Monil. I wish him good luck for the doubles. I have confidence for the third round and I shall give my best,” Gogoi said.
