Sleuths to scruitinise Asthana documents

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The CBI, which is probing the corruption case against special director ( on leave), Rakesh Asthana, is likely to initiate scrutiny of the documents pertaining to the case against him.

Sources in the agency said, “Asthana has been accused of receiving money to give relief to one Satish Babu Sana who was being investigated by the CBI in the Moin Qureshi case. The agency sleuths have collected evidence, including electronic, in this case, which will soon be sent for forensic analysis”. CBI director Alok Verma ( on leave) had ordered an FIR against Asthana on charges of corruption last week, the move that created an unprecedented crisis within CBI.

Asthana had similar also levelled charges against Verma before the CBI director ( on leave) booked him, in letters he wrote to the Central Vigilance Commission ( CVC). Besides, accusing Verma of corruption in the Qureshi case, Asthana levelled several other charges against him. It is yet not clear whether the CVC will probe all the allegations levelled by Asthana or just of corruption in the Qureshi case.

In his letter to the CVC, Asthana alleged that Sana paid Verma Rs 2 crore to get a clean chit in the case.

Asthana said that it was the team under him which had opened a lookout circular against Sana

He had again written to the CVC on October 19 — four days after the FIR was registered against him — claiming that he wanted to arrest and interrogate Sana.
