640kg firecracke­rs seized from N. Delhi

Continuing its effort for pollution free Diwali and implementi­ng the Supreme Court’s order on sale of old firecracke­rs in national capital, the Delhi $ has seized over 640 kg of firecracke­rs from three different parts of North Delhi, said the police on Sunday.

According to the police, 625 kg of firecracke­rs were seized from Sadar Bazar, 11.1 kg firecracke­rs while teams of Subzi Mandi and Burari police stations seized 7.9 kg firecracke­rs.

DCP ( North) Nupur Prasad said, on Saturday during patrolling duty head constable Sandeep Chawla received specific informatio­n about firecracke­rs being stocked at a shop opposite Qutub Road Parking, in Sadar Bazar area.

A raid was conducted at the shop, she added.

During checking, the shop was found stocked with fire crackers weighing 625 kg.

The alleged accused Ravinder ( 35), a resident of Laxmi Nagar, was found to be storing the firecracke­rs.

Hence a case has been registered for negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance and sections of the Explosive Act and a probe has been initiated to trace the source of the seized firecracke­rs, explosive items, the official added.

Apart from this, 11.1kg firecracke­rs and 7.9 kg firecracke­rs were seized by Subzi Mandi and Burari police stations, she said.

On Saturday in a first such case after the Supreme Court’s decision on use of crackers during Diwali, an FIR was registered against a person in Gazipur area for bursting crackers in the city.
