Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s car was attacked on Friday by a mob armed with sticks when he was on his way to Narela in Outer Delhi for an event.

A group of about 100 men tried to stop Mr Kejriwal’s car and attacked it with sticks. The incident occurred when Mr Kejriwal was on his way to inaugurate development works in 25 unauthorised colonies

After the attack, the Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) slammed the Delhi Police on Twitter and said, “If @ DelhiPolice cannot protect a chief minister then how will they protect the common man? Does this happen in any Indian state where CM is attacked repeatedly and the Police fails to act???”

In another tweet, AAP shared a video of the incident and alleged that the BJP was behind the attack.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s car was allegedly attacked on Friday by a mob armed with sticks when he was on his way to Narela in Outer Delhi for an inauguration event.

After the attack, the AAP slammed the Delhi police on Twitter.

“If @ DelhiPolice cannot protect a chief minister then how will they protect the common man? Does this happen in any Indian state where CM is attacked repeatedly and the police fails to act?” it tweeted.

In another tweet, AAP shared a video of the incident and alleged that BJP was behind the attack.

However, the Delhi police has denied any such incident and said, “It was

merely a protest organised by former BJP MLA against the chief minister. No violence took place and we are yet to receive any complaint,” said the Delhi police spokesperson.

In November, Mr Kejriwal had alleged attempt on his life when a man smeared chilli powder on his face. He was leaving his third- floor chamber in the Delhi secretariat complex when a man initially pretended to fall at his feet and then attacked him with chilli powder. “I have been attacked four times in two years and it’s no minor issue...,” he had said then.

“Former BJP MLA Neel Daman Khatri along with associates raised slogans. They were immediately removed from the spot and ACP Narela and his staff escorted the chief minister to the venue of the function. There was no incident of attack and no complaint has been received in this regard,” said a senior Delhi police officer.

Mr Khatri, who is BJP's district president of north west Delhi, alleged AAP volunteers accompanying Mr Kejriwal had misbehaved with his associates and he himself had been shoved by them.

“We were only expressing resentment over metro network not expanding in rural Delhi and neglect of development works by the AAP government. Black flags were shown and slogans were raised but there was no attack on Mr Kejriwal’s vehicle. Instead, AAP volunteers misbehaved with me and I was shoved onto the ground by them, they also tore buttons of my jacket,” Khatri alleged.

In the past, the 50- yearold chief minister has been attacked with ink and slippers and slapped while campaigning for the elections.
