INDIA, BANGLA SIGN THREE AGREEMENTS

Following a meeting of the India- Bangladesh Joint Consultati­ve Commission ( JCC) between foreign ministers of the two countries in New Delhi on Friday, the two nations inked three pacts including one between the Anti- Corruption Commission of Bangladesh and Central Bureau of Investigat­ion ( CBI) of India and another for training of 1800 Bangladesh civil servants. The Rohingya issue was also discussed between the two sides. The JCC was co- Chaired by external affairs minister ( EAM) Sushma Swaraj and visiting Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen. The two Ministers “reaffirmed that the relationsh­ip between India and Bangladesh, forged in the 1971 Liberation War, goes far beyond a strategic partnershi­p”. In a joint statement that mentioned the Rohingya issue, the two sides stated, “The External Affairs Minister expressed appreciati­on for the humanitari­an gesture of Bangladesh in supporting a large number of displaced persons ( Rohingyas) from the Rakhine region of Myanmar and assured the Foreign Minister of India’s continued support for safe, speedy and sustainabl­e return of the displaced persons to Myanmar. Foreign minister A. K. Abdul Momen conveyed the gratitude of Government of Bangladesh for the humanitari­an assistance provided by India in four tranches since eptember 2017 to help meet requiremen­ts of the displaced persons from Myanmar.
