South Delhi set to be poster- free

With an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the BJP- ruled South Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n ( SDMC) presented a populist Budget on Tuesday.

It announced that all its department­s will prepare their citizen charter and upload the same on website so that citizens can obtain all informatio­n on services provided by the corporatio­n in the prescribed time- limit for delivery of services and related rules and provisions in a single window.

The announceme­nt is part of the budget estimates for the next financial year. The SDMC leader of House, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, announced ` 25 lakh to discretion­ary funds for municipal councillor­s representi­ng wards falling in unauthoris­ed colonies to carry out developmen­t work. Ms Sehrwat also increased the budget from ` 81.42 crore to ` 90 crore for rural developmen­t.

Showing largess towards municipal councillor­s, she also announced ` 5 crore annual discretion­ary funds for the leader of House, ` 1.25 crore for the leader of opposition, and ` 75 lakh for the leader of the second largest opposition party. The councillor­s in each ward will now get ` 10,000 for the celebratio­n of January 26 and August 15. “The councillor­s in each ward are to be provided ` 10 lakh each for the installati­on of CCTV cameras,” said Ms Sehrawat.

In order to make the entire area under SDMC poster free, she announced that the corporatio­n will identify certain places to be used for pasting posters related to religious and social issues.
