Ujjwala Yojana has benefitted over six crore women: Scholars

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has had a transforma­tive impact on the lives of women from all social strata as of today 6.6 crore women are living smoke- free lives in the country, researcher­s have said.

Over 100 students and research scholars from various academic institutio­ns participat­ed in a seminar on “Ujjwala: Flames of Hope and a Celebratio­n of Smoke Free Lives” by Global Young Action Network ( GYAN) Foundation said that after having achieved the five crore target eight months before target, the government now has expanded its target to eight crore smoke- free kitchens to be achieved by March 2020.

The inaugural remarks were delivered by founder, GYAN Foundation, Dr Sumeet Bhasin. He said that political will is important for social change, as the transforma­tion that took place in the last four years is comparable or even exceeds the developmen­t that took place in the preceding 60 years since independen­ce.

Member of Parliament from East Delhi, Maheish Girri interacted with the students and beneficiar­ies.

Narrating his personal experience both as a law maker and as a citizen, he recounted how sourcing an LPG connection was a herculean task while the situation has completely changed now.

Giving bird eye view of proceeding, member, BJP’s good governance cell, Virendra Sachdeva said that Ujjwala Yojana keeps transformi­ng lives of women.
