2 managers arrested over eatery deaths

The Delhi police have arrested two senior managers of a restaurant were arrested in connection with the death of two employees of the restaurant in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden who died allegedly due to asphyxiati­on while cleaning it’s kitchen treatment plant, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday at ‘Pirates of Grill’ restaurant in which the housekeepi­ng employees Rakesh (45) and Ajay (19) died while two of their colleagues Pankaj and Raju— were they said.

Two employees, Pankaj Kumar, area manager and Aftab, the unit manager of the restaurant have been arrested in connection with the incident, Monika Bhardwaj, deputy commission­er of police (west) said.

A case was registered under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of Indian Penal Code and SC/ST Act, she said.

Investigat­ions revealed that the two arrested employees were the supervisor­y officer of the staffers and were responsibl­e hospitalis­ed, ◗ for the safety and security of the staffers, another senior officer said.

None of the four workers who went to the basement to clean its kitchen treatment plant were provided any safety gears and being the supervisor­y staff, it was the responsibi­lity of the arrested persons to provide safety gears to the staff before allowing them to clean the treatment plant, the officer said.

The officer added that the owners of the restaurant were also questioned in connection with the case and they are going through the documents to ascertain their role into the incident. The postmortem of the bodies are yet to be conducted and the family members of the victim have sought for a compensati­on. Further investigat­ion is underway, police said.
