Modi, Mongolian Prez unveil Buddha statue in Ulaanbaata­r

Just before leaving Friday evening for the US on a week-long official visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the US “an enabler for India in economic growth and national security”, adding “my visit will present India as a vibrant land of opportunit­ies, a reliable partner and a global leader, and also help impart new energy to our relations with the US”.

Mr Modi said in his meetings with United States President Donald Trump, they “will review our bilateral relations to bring even more benefits to our two nations and peoples”.

New Delhi, Sept. 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday termed as “historic” the cut in corporate tax rates and asserted that economic announceme­nts made in the last few weeks show that his government is leaving no stone unturned to make India a better place to do business.

The announceme­nts in the last few weeks clearly demonstrat­e that the government is leaving no stone unturned to make India a better place to do business, improve opportunit­ies for all sections of society and increase prosperity to make India a $5 trillion economy, he said on Twitter

“The step to cut corporate tax is historic. It will give a great stimulus to #MakeInIndi­a, attract private investment from across the globe, improve competitiv­eness of our

private sector, create more jobs and result in a winwin for 130 crore Indians,” he said.

Battling a six-year low economic growth and a 45year high unemployme­nt rate, the government on

Friday slashed corporate tax rates for companies by almost 10 per cent to 25.17 per cent to bring them at par with Asian rivals such as China and South Korea, as it looked to boost demand and investment­s.

BJP president Amit Shah, senior party leaders as also allies in the government cheered finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s announceme­nts to boost the economy, while opposition parties were critical and slammed the government for “deepening economic crisis”, its “bankruptcy of ideas” and lack of benefits for the common man.

Meanwhile, Mr Modi and Mongolian President Khaltmaagi­in Battulga on Friday jointly unveiled a statue of Lord Buddha at the Gandan Monastery in Mongolia via videoconfe­rencing. The Mongolian President is on a five-day visit to India. The golden statue with Lord Buddha holding a bowl was unveiled at a brief ceremony held at the prime minister’s Lok Kalyan Marg residence.
