New Delhi: Security forces deployed in Jammu and Kashmir are preparing for a long haul. After a detailed review by NSA Ajit Doval, it has been decided that additional deployment, made ahead of revocation of Article 370, will continue for a long duration.

Security forces deployed in Jammu and Kashmir are preparing for a long haul. Following a detailed review by national security advisor Ajit Doval, who is on his second trip to the Valley, it has been decided that additional deployment, made ahead of revocation of Article 370, will continue for a long duration. Thus arrangements are now being made for boarding and lodging of additional troops in the Valley particularly during the coming severe winter season in Kashmir.

Senior security officials confirmed that both paramilitary forces and the Army has been directed to make additional arrangements like setting up temporary accommodation and ensuring additional stock of ration and woollen clothes and uniforms for the troops deployed.

“We have already made the necessary arrangements for the additional forces camping in the Valley. Now that there is a clear direction that the deployment will continue well beyond the winter season whatever additional arrangements are required are also being done,’’ a senior official said.

Apart from the routine law and order maintenance, it has also been decided that additional security forces would be used to launch a fresh offensive against militants in the Valley. As infiltration normally declines during the winter season since mountain passes become highly inaccessible due to heavy snow, it has been decided to use this period as an opportunity to eliminate some of the remaining active militants in the region. NSA Doval has also given a similar directive to the security forces during his meetings with top brass.
