Goveas advances into third round

-

New Delhi, Oct. 2: Second seed Aryan Goveas played topsy-turvy tennis and in the end managed to pull it off against Anvit Bendre to enter the third round of the men’s singles in the Fenesta Open National Tennis championship.

On Wednesday, Aryan was up against a gutsy player who tested his calibre to the hilt.

Aryan had a reputation to protect by virtue of his seeding and also a player who does play on the ATP circuit.

As the match went down to the wire, Aryan came up with some smart shots to win the final set tie-breaker. The final result read 6-4, 0-6, 7-6(2) in the Mumbaikar’s favour.

Unfancied Suraj Prabodh ousted eighth seed Jatin Dahiya in a climactic three-setter at the DLTA facility. Suraj won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 for a spot in the quarterfinals.

“It was a wonderful match although it got little crucial in between but then I boosted my energy and took the game to another level. I plan to give my best shot tomorrow,” said Suraj.

Top seed Nikki Poonacha and third seed Ishaque Iqbal stayed on course by winning regulation matches. “I just finished my second round and it was a great match with great intensity,” said Ishaque.

Nitin K Sinha also had a tough match to make it to the quarterfinals by defeating Abhinav S Sanjeev 7-6 (2), 6-3

In the Women’s section, the favourites stayed on course for a passage into the quarter-finals. Fourth seed Prerna Bhambri led the way by defeating Aarthi Muniyan 6-4, 6-1.

Top seed Sowjanya Bavisetti, third seed Vaidehi Chaudhari and Sarvya Shivani also coasted along.
