Fake ‘scientist’ on run after wife files plaint

‘Already married, unemployed man claimed he worked in Isro’

-

A Ph.D student has alleged that she was cheated by her husband, who impersonated as an Isro scientist and married her, the police said on Sunday. A case was registered against Jitender and his family, who are absconding, after the woman approached the police on October 1, it said.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that Jitender posed as an ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) scientist before her family and married her. He claimed he had an MTech degree from IIT Kharagpur and showed them false IDs and documents to prove that he had worked in DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation)

as a scientist before joining ISRO, a senior police official said.

The victim’s family had also visited Jitender and his family at Rewari before fixing the marriage, he said. After their wedding in May, the man claimed that he was going to join NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) for astronaut training. The woman’s father had dropped him at the airport at the time. Later, when he returned from the USA, he told the victim that he was going to Bengaluru for work, the officer added.

However, after some time his wife found out that he was using Netflix from a location in Gurgaon. Subsequently, she and her family traced Jitender, the officer said.

When confronted, Jitender disclosed that he was unemployed and was already married. He had neither visited USA nor Bengaluru for work and was in Gurgaon all along, the officer added.

Investigations revealed that he was already married. A dowry case has also been registered against him in Rewari and divorce proceedings are underway, the police said.

Efforts are being made to nab them, the police added.
