MP girl dies in Thai mishap, parents struggle to get body

Bereaved family of a software engineer hailing from district headquarte­rs of Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh have been struggling to get her body, even four days after she died in a road accident in Phuket city of Thailand on September 7 for requiring necessary documents to visit the South East Asian country.

Pragya Palliwal (24), a techie working in a Bengaluru-based software company, met with an accident in Phuket, when she was travelling in a car, according to her family members. She died on the spot.

She was visiting Phuket to attend a seminar organised by a local software company.

Local authoritie­s had informed her family about the incident immediatel­y after the mishap.

None of her family members have the required documents to travel to Thailand to receive the body.

The local MLA drew the attention of minister for external affairs S. Jaishankar to intervene in the matter to ensure the family acquired passport and reach Thailand to bring the body.

Mr Jaishankar on Friday ordered the embassy in Thailand to extend necessary help to the family.

The Indian embassy in Thailand was in touch with the family to make arrangemen­ts for them to visit the place and get the body, a Twitter post by Mr Jaishankar said.

Chief minister Kamal Nath on Friday announced that the state government would extend all help to restore the body to her family members.

None of Palliwal’s family members have the required documents to travel to Thailand to receive the body
