A 22-year-old man was held for allegedly killing another man over a monetary dispute in Shahdara, the police said on Sunday.

The accused, Arshad, a resident of Shaheed Nagar in Ghaziabad, was known to the victim and had borrowed `50,000 from his family that he failed to return.

On Sunday morning, the body of an 18-year-old man, with his hands and legs tied up, was found inside the Deer Park in Dilshad Garden, the police said. The man was identified as Sahil, a resident of Kalander Colony.

A police patrolling team was informed about the incident by a passerby, following which they rushed to the spot and found the body, a police official said. The body had deep cuts on the head and neck, the official added.

Sahil’s family told the police that he had left his house on a scooter on Saturday at around 11.45 pm and did not return, the official said. The police said the scooter was found outside the park.

“A case of murder has been registered and Arshad has been apprehended in connection with the killing,” said DCP (Shahdara) Amit Sharma.

During interrogation, the accused told the police that he had borrowed `50,000 from Sahil’s family, which he was not able to repay as he incurred losses in his grocery business.

Under pressure of not being able to return the amount, he decided to kill Sahil. On Saturday night, the two went to the Deer Park where the accused killed him using a blade and brick, the officer said.

The blade used in committing the crime and the blood stained clothes worn by the victim at the time of incident have been recovered, the police said.
