Municipal councillor­s fail to perform duties: Report

Praja Foundation, an NGO, in its report released on Wednesday claimed that municipal councillor­s were failing to perform their constituti­onal duties in the national capital.

The report said that the overall average score of councillor­s had gone down in all the three BJPruled Municipal Corporatio­ns. The average score of councillor­s had dropped from 61.43 per cent to 59.86 percent in South Delhi, from 50.01 percent to 45.38 percent in East Delhi and from 61.29 percent to 59.86 per cent this year in comparison to the previous year.

The report also revealed that the average score of quality of issues raised has dropped in South Delhi from 50.39 per cent to 47.16 per cent, from 51.70 per cent to 50.66 per cent in North Delhi and from 50.01 per cent to 45.34 per cent this year in comparison to the previous year.

Top performing councillor­s are Balram Kumar Oberoi, Avtar Singh and Govind Aggarwal in South, North and East Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n respective­ly.Two South Delhi councillor­s, Suresh Chaudhary and Chander Prakash did not raise a single issue from April 2018 to March 2019.

Shaheen (North Delhi) and Praveen (East Delhi) also did not raise a single issue from April 2018 to March 2019. Interestin­gly the report pointed that AAP councillor Praveen did not raise a single issue since the beginning of the term in April 2017 to March 2019.

The report pointed that the stark decline in the quality and performanc­e of councillor­s is due to both lack of attendance.
