Wanted criminal held after encounter at Moolchand

A 49-year-old man wanted in several cases of dacoity, robbery, theft, and Arms Act, was arrested by the Delhi police after an encounter in Delhi’s Moolchand in the early hours of Friday.

The accused has been identified as Iqbal, a resident of Bulandshah­r district in Uttar Pradesh. On 27 March, 2019, accused Iqbal, along with his associates, had robbed Rs 65 lakh from the cashier of Paras Group of Companies on gunpoint in Noida.

The accused has been identified as Iqbal, a resident of Bulandshah­r district in Uttar Pradesh

Gopal Naik, after receiving a specific input regarding the criminals a trap was laid near Moolchand Metro station on the service road.

“At about 4.30 am on the early hours of Friday, a white Maruti Breeza car was signalled to stop. But the driver of the vehicle hit the barricades, in which head constable Naresh got injured. As the accused tried to flee from the spot by reversing his car, his path was blocked,” said the DCP.

“The driver of the car started firing at the police team, in which inspector Jatan Singh, inspector Rajender Singh, and assistant sub-inspector Pawan Kumar were hit by bullets. However, they were unharmed owing to the bullet-proof jackets worn by them,” said the DCP.

“In retaliatio­n, the police also fired shots, one of which hit his left leg. The accused was shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where his condition is said to be stable,” said the DCP.
