In spite of persisting tensions and the stalemate over the abrogation of Article 370, board examinations for Class 10 were held on schedule in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

However, worried parents could be seen waiting outside exam halls for their children. The non-availability for transport facility only added to their woes.

A statement issued by J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) said that around 65,000 students of Kashmir division (including Ladakh) and 24,000 students of winter zone Jammu appeared for the first paper of the Class 10 examination.

It said that 615 and 296 centres were set up in these regions, respectively, besides a special centre for differently-abled students at the JKBOSE campus in Srinagar. The statement further said that 99 percent students appeared in the examination which remained incident free.

Meanwhile, panic gripped Drabgam area of southern Pulwama district on

Tuesday after the militants attacked a foot patrol of Army’s Rashtriya Rifles. The attack was promptly retaliated by the troops. No one was injured, the police sources said.

The incident also created commotion at a nearby school. The police officials denied an earlier report which said that the militants had tried to target children by firing at a school building in the area. The incident, they said, took place half a kilometer away from the school.

The government had impressed upon the JK State Board of School Education, College and University authorities to ensure the conduct of all ensuing examinations before the onset of winters in Kashmir region and also in winter Zone of Jammu region.
