Man shot dead after ‘terror-related’ stabbings in London

London: The British police on Sunday said it had shot a man in south London after at least two people were stabbed in a suspected “terrorist-related” incident. The police later said the man had died as a witness spoke of seeing a man in Streatham “with a machete and silver canisters on his chest”. The circumstan­ces are being assessed; the incident has been declared as terrorist-related,” the police said on Twitter.

London, Feb. 2: A man was shot dead by armed Scotland Yard officers in south London on Sunday in a terror-related stabbing incident which injured at least two people.

Emergency services, including paramedics and armed police, responded to the incident on Streatham High Road, from where social media images showed plaincloth­ed policemen pursuing a suspect who was later pronounced dead.

“A man has been shot by armed officers in Streatham,” the Metropolit­an Police said in a statement.

“At this stage it is believed a number of people have been stabbed. The circumstan­ces are being assessed; the incident has been declared as terrorist-related,” it said.

The police later confirmed that the scene had been “fully contained”.

“We believe there are two injured victims. We await updates on their conditions,” they said.

Police shouted for people to “get back” as they cleared the area of shoppers and bystanders.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson took to Twitter to

thank the emergency services for containing the incident. “Thank you to all emergency services responding to the incident in Streatham, which the police have now declared as terrorism-related. My thoughts are with the injured and all those affected,” he said.
