Finally, the release date of the Ayan Mukerji-directed Brahmastra has come out. It was being said that the release date of the Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt-starrer had shifted from Christmas last year to avoid a clash with Salman Khan’s Dabangg 3, because Salman and Alia were scheduled to work together in the film Inshallah – which anyway got shelved later.

However, that really seems far from the truth because the film, which was slated for release in the summer of 2020, has now been announced for the winter, December 4 to be precise.

Amitabh Bachchan, who also spearheads the cast of the film along with Nagarjuna and Shah Rukh Khan in a special appearance, has been looking forward to this film rather inquisitively. Even as he announced the date of the film, Bachchan sent in a warning to the director, stating: “Ayan is not allowed to change it now!”

Brahmastra is a very expensive film, whose cost of production is the highest for any film made by Karan Johar, perhaps on par with his upcoming Takht or even more than it.

“There are many special effects in that film and a lot of filmmakers are really not aware as to how much time the special effects of a film actually take, because they don’t do it themselves and they need to keep doing it till they get it right. And that is the reason why films like 2.0, Manikarnika, Total Dhamaal and now Brahmastra has been delayed time and again because the filmmakers need to finally be happy with it. Fair enough, actors want their films to release soon especially if it is a subject they haven’t done before, but the product needs to be good too,” says a trade source.
