From friends to foes

-

Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala are the two of the biggest filmmakers in the country – both producer-directors. While Karan made his direction debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai over two decades ago, Sajid made it with Kick six years ago. While Karan started being a fullfledged producer just a few years ago after his father Yash Johar’s demise, Sajid turned producer in 1992 with Zulm Ki Hukumat.

They have worked together and produced films like Kalank and 2 States, but they will turn box office foes on the Christmas of 2021, with Karan’s Takht and Sajid’s Kick 2 releasing on the same date.

“It was surprising that Karan announced the release date of Takht in Christmas 2021 when Sajid had already announced that he wants Kick to come at that time. But then these two are friends. Hopefully, one of them will learn a lesson from Aamir Khan that, ‘All it takes is one phone call!’ So, which one of them will make that phone call and who will adjust their dates is to be seen. If these two very big films clash, there will surely be a cannibalisation of the audience and both the films will suffer. The weaker film will be affected the most,” avers a trade source.

It can be recalled that both Aamir’s Laal Singh Chaddha as well as Akshay Kumar and Sajid’s Bachchan Pandey were releasing this Christmas and Aamir made the call and got Bachchan Pandey postponed to 2021.

Takht has an ensemble cast of Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Vicky Kaushal, while Kick stars Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez besides a host of big names that haven’t been announced thus far.
