ACTIVIST SEEKS THOROUGH PROBE IN LOYA’S DEATH

-

Mumbai: A group of citizens on Tuesday demanded a thorough inquiry into the death of special CBI judge Brijgopal Harkishan Loya in 2014. The group has written a letter to Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, seeking a time-bound probe into the death of Loya. Justice Loya, who was hearing the high-profile Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case of Gujarat, died of a cardiac arrest in Nagpur on December 1, 2014, when he had gone to attend the wedding of a colleague’s daughter. Social activist Ashok Pai, addressing a press conference on behalf of the group, also demanded proper compensation for the judge's family, saying he was on an “official” tour. Mr Pai said on Tuesday he met NCP president Sharad Pawar, whose party is a key constituent of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra, and raised these demands with him. Mr Pawar assured to look into the demands, he said at the press conference at the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh. “We have handed over a letter to Maharashtra Assembly speaker Nana Patole and dispatched a copy of the letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray (seeking a probe into Loya's death),” Mr Pai said. — PTI

YOUTH STRANDED IN KUWAIT SEEKS ODISHA CM’S HELP AKSHAYA KUMAR SAHOO BHUBANESWAR, FEB. 18

A 24-year-old youth from Odisha’s Ganjam district, who is reportedly stranded in Kuwait, has appealed to the state government to help him return to his native place. The youth, Jeelu Prusty of Adapada in the district through a video message has narrated the hardship he is facing in the Gulf country and appealed to the government to facilitate his repatriation. According to sources, Prusty had been working as a pipe fabricator at M/s Heena Enterprises in Mumbai since 2016. The company subsequently engaged him at M/s Al-Sager Company Gen Trad & Cont WLL, Kuwait last year. However, instead of employing him as a pipe fabricator as promised earlier, the said company allegedly engaged Prusty in soil transporting work. After working there for eight months, he left the job. However, the company did not settle his payment. His passport validity also reportedly ended in November 2019.
