15 achievers get ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ from Prez
Seven women achievers shared their life journey and interacted with social media users through Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter handle and other social media platforms, including Facebook, on International Women’s Day on Sunday. Mr Modi also interacted with 15 awardees of the “Nari Shakti Puraskar” that was conferred by President Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion.
Signing off for the day to let his social media platforms be used to share the achievements of women and their “struggles and aspirations motivate millions”, Mr Modi greeted women and saluted the “spirit and accomplishments of Nari Shakti”. “Greetings on International Women’s Day! We salute the spirit and accomplishments of our Nari Shakti. As I’d said a few days ago, I’m signing off. Through the day, seven women achievers will share their life journeys and perhaps interact with you through my social media accounts... India has outstanding women achievers in all parts of the nation. These women have done great work in a wide range of sectors. Their struggles and aspirations motivate millions. Let us keep celebrating the achievements of such women and learning from them. #SheInspiresUs,” tweeted the Prime Minister.
Later in the day, Mr Modi interacted with the awardees of the “Nari Shakti Puraskar” conferred by President Ram Nath Kovind on International Women’s Day, which also included 103-year-old athlete Mann Kaur, farmers Padala Bhudevi and Bina Devi, lady mason Kalavati Devi and 98-year-old Karthyayini Amma, who topped the literacy exam in 2018.

Puraskar”, instituted by the women and child development ministry, is given in recognition of exceptional work for women empowerment as a mark of respect and recognition for those who demonstrate “exemplary courage and stellar contribution towards empowerment of women”.
Earlier in the day, the PM shared brief videos of the seven women achievers on his Twitter and Instagram pages and their achievements on his Facebook page. The achievements were shared under #SheInspiresUs.
These seven achievers who shared their experience through the PM’s Twitter handle included Vijaya Pawar from Maharashtra’s Banjara community; Sneha Mohandoss, who runs Foodbank India; the survivor of a bomb blast at the age of 13, Malvika Iyer, Kashmir’s Arifa Jaan from Kashmir, who is empowering local women through traditional crafts; Kanpur’s Kalavati Devi, who collected money to build toilets; Veena Devi of Munger, who did not allow lack of space to create hurdles in her plan to cultivate mushrooms and grew the crop under her bed; and Kalpana Ramesh, a water conservator.
“We have over 20 chapters and have impacted several people with our work. We also initiated activities like mass cooking, cooking marathons, breastfeeding awareness drives,” wrote Sneha Mohandoss on Mr Modi’s Twitter. Inspired by her mother, she started Foodbank India to eradicate hunger. At the age of 13, Dr Malvika Iyer’s hands and legs got severly damaged in a bomb blast. She is now a motivational speaker, disability activist and also a model.
