Couple with links to ISIS module held in Delhi

Duo was actively involved in anti-CAA protests, planned suicide attacks

A husband wife duo who hails from Kashmir and are suspected to be Islamic State Khorasan Province terrorists were arrested by the Delhi Police Special cell from Jamia Nagar in Okhla.

The duo were allegedly actively involved in the anti-CAA protests. The sources, meanwhile, alleged that the couple was planning to carry out suicide attacks in the country. They urged Muslims to unite against CAA. “The man Jahanzaib Sami alias Dawood Ibrahim (36), a native of Shivpora in Shrinagar, and his wife Hinda Bashir Beigh (39) had links with the ISKP and were arrested on Sunday,” said Pramod Kushwaha, DCP (Special Cell).

They were members of banned terrorist outfit ISIS and were propagatin­g its ideology of hatred against non-Muslims.

They are also inciting Muslims to take up violent struggle against the state. Four mobile phones, one laptop, one external hard-disc and other materials were seized From the interrogat­ion, it has been found that they have created several anonymous Ids on several social media platforms such as Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. to propagate the ideology of ISIS and were also circulatin­g material against CAA.

Sources alleged that the couple was planning to carry out suicide attacks in the country. They urged Muslims to unite against the CAA. “The man, Jahanzaib Sami alias Dawood Ibrahim (36), a native of Shivpora in Shrinagar, and his wife, Hinda Bashir Beigh (39), had links with the ISKP and were arrested on Sunday,” said DCP (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwaha.

From the interrogat­ion, it has been found that they have created several anonymous IDs on several social media platforms such as Telegram, Facebook, Threema, Surespot, Instagram, Twitter, etc. and propagatin­g the ideology of banned outfit ISIS and circulatin­g material against government establishe­d law for enacting the Citizenshi­p Amendment Act. Both were in touch with senior ISKP members in Afghanista­n to exploit the ongoing agitation against the amended citizenshi­p law to incite Muslim youths to carry out terror strikes. Prima facie it seems that they are linked with the ISIS module.

Sami has done B.Tech and MBA and was doing web designing and media related work. They recently started living in Delhi.

Damaging kind of literature against the country has been recovered from them. The literature is against other communitie­s. The police recovered electronic gadgets and incriminat­ing material promoting jihadi thoughts from their possession.

Sami came under the radar due to his activities on cyberspace, which revealed his intention to carry out suicide attacks in the country. Earlier, he was also in contact with Khurasan-based Huzaifa Bakistani.

During interrogat­ion, Sami revealed that he was actively involved on various social media platforms calling on Indian Muslims to unite and fight against the Indian establishm­ent in protest against the CAA legislatio­n, sources said. He also revealed that he was trying to arrange firearms and ammunition­s for his planned activities against the CAA.

Sami told the police that he was actively involved in the propagatio­n of recently published IS magazine ‘Sawt al-Hind’ (Voice of India) in the month of February 2020. He revealed that one of his close associates, Khattab, was in fact Abdullah Basith who is currently lodged in Tihar jail as an undertrial in ISIS-related cases.

Meanwhile, Sami’s wife Hinda was also active on pro-IS social media platforms under the name of Catijah al Kashmiri/Hannabee and played the role of facilitato­r in spotting talents on cyberspace and further motivating them.

The duo has been arrested under appropriat­e sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAP). The police sources said that probe is in initial stage and multiple raids are being conducted in and around Delhi and in the coming days more people might be detained.
