Maa Manasa can save people from coronavirus, says Ghosh

- RAJIB CHOWDHURI

West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh has said that Goddess Manasa’s blessings can protect people from getting infected by novel coronavirus. Comparing the deadly disease with other diseases, he pointed out that the casualty in dengue and malaria is higher than that of Covid-19 in the country. The Trinamul Congress mocked at the Midnapore BJP MP for his ‘logic’.

Mr Ghosh told a Manasa Puja celebration at Egra in East Midnapore district on Tuesday, “This celebration of fair and worship has been going on for seven-eight days. Many devotees, observing fast, have come here to offer their puja.

“This tradition exists everywhere in the country. This is our country.

India is moving ahead this way. People across the world are not stepping out of their homes in fear since the outbreak of novel coronavirus.”

He observed, “Crores of people have confined themselves to their homes. Those who are reaching the sun and the moon, cannot even step out of their homes. But here, look at these thousands of people who have come here to offer their puja to Maa Manasa.”

Exuding confidence, the BJP MP assured the devotees, “Nothing will happen here because of the blessings of Maa.

“Some people might have been infected. But more people die of malaria and dengue here. We are not scared.” Taking potshots at him, Trinamul secretary general Partha Chatterjee said, “Mr Ghosh is gradually becoming a laughing stock.”

The state education minister added, “He should realise that he is state president of a party and an MP.

“He must have a stature and sweetness. Ironically, he makes such comments. His partymen surely get irritated, but we are very happy. The more he makes such comments, the more the people will support us. Let him continue like this.”
