IT firms cautious as virus strikes

The dreaded Covid-19 has spread its tentacles and a fresh confirmed corona virus positive contract case has been detected at RMZ Infinity in Bengaluru.

According to an official spokespers­on from RMZ, “We can confirm that an employee from Google, Bengaluru office has been diagnosed with Covid-19. They were in one of our Bengaluru offices for a few hours before developing any symptoms. The employee has been on quarantine since then, and we have asked colleagues who were in close contact with the employee to quarantine themselves and monitor their health.”

“Out of an abundance of caution, we are asking employees in that Bengaluru office to work from home tomorrow. We have taken and will continue to take all necessary precaution­ary measures, following the advice of public health officials, as we prioritise everyone’s health and safety,” the spokespers­on said.

Almost all the IT companies have asked their employees to work from home as a precaution­ary measure and to contain the spread of corona virus.

With this, Bengaluru has five Covid-19 cases. After a techie, his wife and daughter were detected with coronaviru­s infection, another person who was on a honeymoon vacation to Greece has also been detected with the dreaded virus.

Meanwhile, the local Civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has formed committees to create awareness within and outside BBMP jurisdicti­on. The Civic body is also planning for extensive awareness drive.

The threat of Covid-19 that claimed a life in Kalaburagi failed to deter devotees from attending the annual Shara nab ave sh war a chariot fest in the heart of the city on Friday.

Deputy commission­er B. Sharath had appealed to devotees against turning up for the fest in large numbers.

Basavaraj Deshmukh, secretary of Shara na ba save sh war a Temple, Kalaburagi told Deccan Chronicle that the threat of virus had made no difference to the influx of devotees to Kalaburagi and the number of devotees to the fest was more or less similar to the crowd in yesteryear­s.
