Reports of people being mistreated due to Covid-19 scare surfaced on Friday. In Kottayam district, three male nurses who were taking care of Covid-19 patients at the Kottayam Medical College were asked vacate their rented accommodation.

The male nurses were deployed at the hospital in different shift. To their horror when they returned home on Friday to take rest, the house owner asked them leave at once.

With the matter triggering a controversy, Kottayam Collector P.K. Sudheer Babu intervened in the matter and directed medical college authorities to provide them accommodation in the hospital premises. At present three Covid-19 patients are undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital.

Also there have been instances of people despite personal tragedies, cooperating with the instructions and restrictions imposed by the authorities. Lino Abel returned from Qatar to see his father who had suffered a stroke and was admitted to the Kottyam medical college. From airport he went straight to the hospital but decided not to see his dad who was on ventilator support. Subsequently, Lino had cough and irritation in his throat, and he was in a dilemma whether to inform the Covid-19 wing in hospital or keep it to himself. Later he decided to report to the section. That night his father passed away and Lino could only watch through the window of his isolation room, the ambulance carrying his father’s mortal remains to their native place. He shared his experience on the Facebook and remarked “Isolation ward is not a concentration camp.”

Lino says he will feel very bad if his test is found negative as he could not bid the final goodbye to his father. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan lauded Lino's social commitment and responsibility towards fellow beings.
