Cong dismisses it’s facing brain-drain

■ ‘Younger leaders will be given responsible positions’

-

Grappling with rebellion from many of its young leaders, the Congress on Friday said that no “braindrain” was happening in the party and young leaders were being given responsible positions even as it sought to bring back the focus on the economy highlighting the plight of beleaguered Yes Bank and the government’s decision to let SBI invest in it.

Congress’ chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said that there comes a time in life when one has to choose an ideology over the allure of a post that one may get in an ideology which one may have no faith in.

“I do not think that there is any brain drain happening in the Congress party as Rahul Gandhi himself answered vis-a-vis Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday,” he told the media here.

“The younger lot or the younger leaders whom you are referring to have more than adequate place in the party. They will be attended to and given responsible positions. Some of them have already been given so during Rajya Sabha elections.” It might be noted that the Congress has opted for many young faces like as its Rajya Sabha candidates like Deepender Hooda, the son of former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Rajeev Satav, Shahzada Anwar, Kennedy Cornelius Khyriem and Phulo Devi Netam.

Bringing the focus back on the economy, Mr Surjewala branded the decision to make SBI invest in Yes Bank as “Experimental Crony Capitalism”, Mr Surjewala said: “There are 44.51 crore account holders in State Bank of India. Yesterday SBI’s interest rate in savings accounts was cut from 3.25 percent to 3 percent. Rate of interest in Fixed Deposit was also reduced thus nearly 0.25 percent to .5 percent reduced”.
