‘PM must focus on economic tsunami’
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a twin attack on authorities claiming that Lok Sabha had become a “loudspeaker” of the government even as he asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get his “head out of the sand” to deal with problems, especially on the economic front.
Mr Gandhi told the media in Parliament that an “economic tsunami” was coming and India should be preparing itself not just to fight the Coronavirus, but also the economic devastation that it would bring.
“Indian economy will be devastated. It is like a tsunami is coming,” the Wayanad MP said.
“I am saying it repeatedly but nobody is listening to me. I am sorry to say our people will be going through unimaginable pain in the next six months,” he said.
He urged the Modi government to prepare according to India’s strengths and claimed that if steps were not taken, there will be massive economic devastation.

Earlier, in the Lok Sabha, trouble broke out during the Question Hour when MPs from Congress, DMK and NCP walked out claiming they were not allowed to ask a supplementary question related to the official language.
As Speaker Om Birla took up the next question without allowing supplementary question, DMK leader T.R. Baalu protested saying they should be allowed to ask supplementary questions.
Mr Gandhi intervened at this time and said it was an issue at the heart of the people of Tamil Nadu and that supplementaries should be allowed.
“It is ok for the Speaker to hurt me, I understand he doesn’t want me to speak. But today the people of Tamil Nadu wanted to ask a supplementary question,” he said.
