Space paradox AN ART EXHIBITION THAT HOLD A DEGREE OF AMBIGUITY LAYERED WITH MEANING AND LACED WITH IRONY.

- MAYANK GOYAL

A solo art exhibition ‘Miscellaneous and the mute’ by Delhi-based artist Josh PS is taking place in the capital city. In this exhibition the artists explores and operate the ability of a single dot and lines as carrier of information, where every stroke is as unique and un-identical to the one before.

Take a deeper look and you will find every stroke eccentric and un-identical to the each other.

“This exhibition takes from the notion that history is essentially nothing more than a memory, a subjective narration of events in the past,” says the artist.

Fascinated with space, time and history, artist work reflects the paradox of living, between the micro and macro, the ultimate reality and the infinite realities. Each work transforms to one and several at the same time. Talking about the paintings Josh says, “Those paintings titled ‘Performing History Machines’ stands for generic movements of the universe (Histories of all kind-it carries information’s on each tiny movements or events in the cosmos in its actual form or true form). Other paintings are specifically titled differently as they are memorial to specific events, which is relevant in a context of violations of rights, and injustice to the right of living. Talking about the reason behind the name ‘Miscellaneous and The Mute’, Josh explains, “The show is about various activities (atrocious/unjustified/violations) around the world which may not or may have gone unnoticed for which ever reasons and also for those victims who didn’t get a chance to speak about it or may be forcefully silenced or brutally massacred hence the name ‘Miscellaneous and the mute”. The exhibition also mulls over the hazy and fluid boundaries of memory, he further comments, “Two people describe the same event in two different ways because they have different memories of it. That’s why we have history, which is controversial as when the time passes, memory loses its sharpness”. Josh’s work and style move among the trajectories of conceptual minimalism and realism and the medium he uses in his artworks are both conventional and unconventional medium such as watercolour, oil paint, charcoal and oil pastels, paper, canvas, plaster of paris, wax, wood and unconventional mediums like coal ash, cob web and even living organisms. Concluding the artist, as he shares his memories of the exhibition, “I had some interesting viewers whom I had wonder full conversations on the show, its concepts and content are in hidden depth and secrets.” artist
