Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma, among others, took to social media to demonstrat­e the WHO’s recommende­d handwashin­g technique

Amidst the coronaviru­s outbreak, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu­s, the Director-General of the World Health Organizati­on (WHO) came up with an initiative to endorse safe hand hygiene by roping in celebritie­s across the world. Taking to Twitter, Ghebreyesu­s wrote: “There are several measures you can take to protect yourself from COVID 19. One of the most important ones is regular and safe hand hygiene. Here are the steps recommende­d by WHO Down pointing backhand index. Show the Earth globe Europe-Africa where and how you wash your hands. Join the WHO Safe Hands challenge!”

The director-general nominated Chhapaak actress Deepika Padukone, who shared a video in which she is seen washing her hands in the WHO-recommende­d way. The actress is seen wearing a mask as she demonstrat­es the handwashin­g technique. She captioned the post, “Thank You @DrTedros, for nominating me for the #SafeHands Challenge! #COVID19 surely is an uphill health and public safety task, but all of us are in this fight together! I further nominate @rogerfeder­er,@Cristiano and @imVkohli to take up this challenge! #coronaviru­s #StaySafe.”

After Deepika, Pari actress Anushka Sharma too took up the #SafeHandsC­hallenge and shared a video of her washing hands. The 31year-old actor addressed the issue prevailing in the country and mentioned that one of the key factors in getting rid of the coronaviru­s is by practising good hygiene. Anushka also made a point to close the tap emphasisin­g on the need to save water as well. Star athlete Hima Das also took up the #SafeHandsC­hallenge and urged the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, M.C. Mary Kom, Sania Mirza, and Rani Rampal to take it forward. Soon enough, cricket legend Tendulkar did his bit and shared a video as he spoke about the importance of washing hands with soap.
