Deepika’s director woes

-

In January, Deepika Padukone made an announcement about working with Rishi Kapoor in the remake of the Hollywood film The Intern, starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathway.

Rishi along with son Ranbir had met De Niro during his cancer treatment in the USA, so it was not really a surprise, but pleasant news nonetheless, when they announced the remake.

What as surprising, however, was the fact that they went ahead and announced the film without having a writer or a director in place. With Deepika also being one of the producers of the film along with Warner Bros. and Azure Entertainment, it was being perceived that the producer had cast herself in the film without a script or a maker. They were trolled for it as well.

But now, it seems that they are narrowing down on the director of the film. And buzz in the market claims that it is a shootout between Amit Sharma — who made Tevar and Badhaai Ho! and is now making the Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan — and Gauri Shinde, the director of English Vinglish. “Though they come from the ad film background, both are diametrically opposite makers. Amit, however, has the advantage of a big hit behind him and the ability to weave products as in film placements rather seamlessly, putting to rest any doubts on the recoveries of the film. Since the film is set in an office backdrop, a lot of products can be incorporated. Gauri has the advantage of tacking the film from a woman’s gaze on the subject,” say sources.

We only asked for a written assurance that they will not tamper with history. We went to the shoot and told them that this is what we needed and they agreed to co-operate.” —MAHIPAL SINGH MAKRANA, KARNI SENA
