Air India crew ostracised by some RWAs
While the train and bus services in India will remain shut due to a lockdown announced by several states in the country, the domestic flights will continue to operate.
“Domestic flights to and from IGIA Delhi shall continue to operate and the Airport shall remain functional,” a senior official of Ministry of Civil Aviation said. GMR that runs Delhi airport also tweeted saying all scheduled domestic flight operations will continue at the Delhi airport. “Passengers are requested to get in touch with the airline concerned for updated flight information,” they said.
Though several airlines have cut down their flights in view of low occupancy due to COVID, the airports are still not shut in several places, particularly the mega cities.
However, with no public transportation available in several states from Monday that have announced a complete lockdown, commuting will be a big challenge for the passengers if they do not have personal vehicle.

Sunday said that “vigilante” resident welfare associations and neighbours were ostracising and calling police on its crew members, who went abroad as a part of their duty.
“It is alarming to note that in many localities, vigilante Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and neighbours have started ostracising the crew, obstructing them from performing their duty or even calling in the police, simply because the crew travelled abroad in the course of their duty,” the airline said in a press release.
“These vigilantes have conveniently forgotten that many a spouse, parent, sibling, child and near and dear ones were brought home safely from coronavirus-hit countries, thanks to the heroice efforts of these Air India crew,” it added.
The Air India appealed to law enforcing agencies to ensure its crew is treated with courtesy and respect. The airlines assured people that during evacuations sufficient sanitizers, gloves and masks were made available for passengers and every care was taken to ensure the safety of its crew as per health protocal.
Following major chaos at Delhi airports due to screening, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said 90 health counters are operational at the Delhi airport and things are back to normal now. A batch of 263 Indians evacuated from Italy in view of the COVID-19 outbreak there is brought back to the country and sent to a ITBP quarantine facility.
