Cops help 73-yr-old woman in distress

The Delhi Police came to the rescue of a 73-yearold woman on Saturday after she informed them she did not have food and neither had money to purchase grocery items, officials said.

HC Ritu Menon, who resides in Prayavaran Complex Saidulajab in South Delhi’s Mehrauli contacted the area SHO Harendra Singh at around 1.30 pm on mobile and told him she is alone and her son who is working in London could not send her money due to the current situation, they said. She has not been able to contact him either, police said.

She told the SHO she did not have anything to eat and neither had money with her to purchase food. Immediatel­y, she was approached by the beat staff and was provided all essential items including flour, rice, sugar, oil and other grocery items, said DCP (South) Atul Kumar Thakur.

She was also provided financial help to meet her daily requiremen­ts and was told to approach police again in case of any requiremen­t or emergency, he said.

Meanwhile Ladli Foundation team along with the help of Delhi Police distribute­d sanitation kits, consisting of soap, handwash, mask and sanitary pads to the needy in JJ Camp in Tigri area. Police also distribute­d 600 food packets among needy in Shaheen Bagh area.

Global India Foundation along with NGO Naveen Path gave huge quantity of food items and sanitation kits to the Delhi police. Naveen kumar, chairman of the foundation, said: “With the help of Dabur, we have given 26,352 litre juice, 19,200 bottles of honey, 6,100 packets of packed juice, 8,288 packets of glucose and 500 special kits containing a mask, sanitiser and a bottle of chawanpras­h to the Spl CP (prov) S. Nithianand­am. Further we will be giving special kits containing sanitiser and mask to mediaperso­ns who are on ground.”
