BCCI pitches in with `51 crore

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has pledged `51crore towards the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund in the country’s battle against coronaviru­s.

New Delhi, March 28: India's richest sporting body BCCI on Saturday pledged a donation of `51 crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund in country's fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

“Sourav Ganguly, President, Mr Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary and Office Bearers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with the affiliated state associatio­ns on Saturday announced to donate `51 crores to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES Fund) to contribute towards strengthen­ing the nation's disaster management capacities and encourage research to combat Covid19 and protect Indian citizens,” the BCCI release stated.

RAINA PLEDGES `52 LAKH FOR PANDEMIC BATTLE

Former India batsman Suresh Raina on Saturday donated `52 lakh to the country’s fight against Covid-19 pandemic and urged others also to contribute in these times of health crisis.

The southpaw’s contributi­on is biggest from any Indian sportspers­ons across discipline­s.

“It’s time we all do our bit to deafeat Covid-19. I’m pledging 152 lakh for the fight against Corona (`31 lakh to the PM-Cares fund & `21 lakh to the UP CM’s Disaster Relief Fund). Please do your bit too. Jain Hind,” Raina Tweeted.

CHAMPS MOHUN BAGAN CONTRIBUTE `20 LAKH

Designated I-League champions Mohun Bagan have announced a donoation of `20 lakh in the fight against the coronaviru­s pandemic.

“Mohun Bagan will donate `20 lakh towards the West Bengal State Emergency Relief Fund to be used to combat the deadly coronaviru­s pandemic,” Mohun Bagan announced this on their official Facebook page.

Finance Secretary Debashis Dutta added: “Be it good times or bad, our fans never stop supporting their beloved club. During this tough time we want to help the people who are fighting to make our lives easier. We can get through this together!.”

“Football stands for unity. We also make an appeal to all to come forward with voluntary donations,” it added.

MUMBAI PREMIER LEAGUE DONATES `8 LAKH

The eight team owners of the Mumbai Premier League (MPL) will be donating `1 lakh each in order to help the groundsmen working on Mumbai maidans who are facing hardships due to Covid-19 lockdown.

“With the Covid-19 lockdowns, the daily wager community that is our maidan clubs’ groundsmen find that their only source of income come to a significan­t halt,” the MPL team owners, wrote in a letter to MCA chief Vijay Patil.

“To help them overcome this crisis, on behalf of all the T20 Mumbai Premier League, the team owners would like to contribute `1lakh per team as gesture to support many groundsmen,” the owners stated.
