Delhi CM urges migrants to stay

New Delhi: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday appealed to migrant workers not to leave for their native places during the 21day lockdown in the interest of the country. Mr Kejriwal assured migrant workers that his government has made food and boarding arrangemen­ts for them. “For now, do not go to your villages in the country’s interest,” the Delhi CM wrote on Twitter.

Amid exodus of migrant workers out of the national capital, Delhi Police commission­er S.N. Srivastava on Sunday instructed his personnel to stop mirgants from moving out of the city by enhancing picket deployment across the city and stopping movement of every bus going outside Delhi, officials said.

This comes a day after thousands of migrant workers thronged Anand Vihar bus teminus on the Delhi-UP border to go back to their villages. Many people were seen trying to walk on the railway track at Anand Vihar to go their home towns in Uttar Pradesh. So, the commission­er has also directed his forces to deploy more pickets near the tracks to keep a strict vigil on movement of migrants.

been asked to make announceme­nts in areas of mirgant population that government will pay them their full wages and also create awareness among them about the threat of spread of Coronaviru­s and also to warn them that strict action will be taken if they are seen on the roads.

The police have also been directed to not allow any movement of DTC buses or any other private bus ferrying migrant population oustide oustide the national capital.

All the DTC buses coming to bus stops and stands should be detained there and not allowed to move outside Delhi.

The officers have been directed to detain and seize the buses at the bus stops and stops even before the Transport Authority does it.

The officers have also been directed to make announceme­nts in areas of migrant population that no buses will be going outside Delhi towards Uttar Pradesh and take all measures to stop movement of migrants outside Delhi.

On one side, the Delhi police distribute­d food to about 6,000 people in Paharganj area, on the other hand the force on Sunday detained over 3,800 people and seized 350 vehicles for violating the lockdown orders. The special branch of Delhi Police distribute­d food in the area of PS Paharganj and also in Rohini area.

Further in Greater Kailash area, a message was received that a senior citizen couple aged 80 years had nothing to eat and wanted help. This was received through WhatsApp. Immediatel­y SHO GK reached there, interacted with them, counselled and convince them that the Delhi Police is with every citizen and helped them in getting food articles as per their need, said DCP (South) Atul Kumar Thakur.
