Biggest hospital for Covid-19 patients to be open by April 1

The constructi­on work of the country’s biggest hospital for treating Covid-19 patient is going on in full-swing in Odisha capital Bhubaneswa­r and the facility will be ready for operation by April 1.

Top officials of the state government, including chief secretary Asit Tripathy, health secretary Nikunja Dhal and 5-T secretary V.K. Pandian on Sunday visited the sites of the hospital.

Known as special Covid-19 Hospital, the facility will have 1000 beds – 500 beds at KIIMS Hospital and another 500 beds at Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital – Bhubaneswa­r.

“In order to provide good healthcare services to Covid-19 patients, Odisha is building the country’s Special Covid19 hospital. This will be operationa­l within the stipulated seven days. Top officials of the state government-supervised and reviewed the progress of the constructi­on work,” chief minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted on Sunday.

The chief minister who had announced the decision for constructi­on of the hospital on March 26 evening also tagged in his Twitter handle pictures the new hospital beds and top officials supervisin­g the constructi­on work.

By Sunday afternoon, the number of Covid-19 patients remained at three.

According to a health government official communicat­ion, as many as 297 samples were tested by Sunday afternoon. Of the 294 tested negative for Covid-19.

At least 56 persons were under hospital isolation in different hospitals while more than 78,000 migrant workers who returned from highrisk Covid-19 states remained under home isolation.

Similarly, 4209 people with travel history abroad and 4061 persons with domestic travel history have registered with the state government’s designated coronaviru­s website and 104 helpline number for home quarantine.

Meanwhile, amid the lockdown for Coronaviru­s, the Odisha government has also sounded heat wave alert in the state.
