BJP slams Congress over Sonia’s remarks

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Terming Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi’s criticism of the nationwide lockdown as “insensitive” and “unfortunate,” the BJP on Thursday reminded the opposition party that when the entire nation is fighting against the Covid-19 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, it should also work as a responsible political party. The Congress president had criticised the Union government’s handling of the situation arising out of the coronavirus pandemic and said the lockdown was unplanned, which resulted in harassment of lakhs of migrants across the country.

“Entire world is appreciating measures taken by India under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership to combat the virus. The PM and chief ministers of all states are working as a Team India to fight against the virus. At this time, Congress should work as a responsible political organisation. The entire nation is working together and Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s statement at a time like this is insensitive and unfortunate. This is not a time to do politics but to work as one for the nation,” said BJP president J.P. Nadda.

Former BJP president and Union home minister Amit Shah slammed the Congress for its leader’s statement, saying it is an “old habit” of the Congress to toe a different line from national interest and to mislead and divide the society for political gains.

“Under PM’s leadership, Indians are united in the fight against Covid-19 but even at a time like this, Congress is playing politics during a situation like this. This is Congress’s old habit to take a different line from national interest.” he said.
