In this battle, however, the Army lost five of soldiers, three on the site and two more succumbed while they were airlifted to a nearby military hospital.

It was 4 Para unit which had undertaken part in the 2016 surgical strikes in Pakistanoccupied Kashmir.

The movement of these terrorists was first reported on early morning on 1st April.

However, extremely difficult terrain and inclement weather prevented engagement by regular troops.

It was decided to send special forces to eliminate these terrorists.

The soldiers fell into the nallah close to where the terrorists were sitting. This led to close quarter battle at virtually point blank range and hand-to-hand combat in which all the terrorists were killed.

The mortal remains of the soldiers and terrorists were found within 23 meters of each other.

This Indian Army Special Forces squad was led by Subedar Sanjeev Kumar and included Havildar Davendra Singh, Paratrooper Bal Krishan, Paratrooper Amit Kumar and Paratrooper Chhatrapal Singh.
