Tablighis agree for corona test after Naveen’s appeal Perform prayers at home, Naqvi urges Muslims

Responding to Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s appeal to voluntaril­y register themselves with the state government’s designated Covid19 website for availing medical care, 42 Tablighi Jamaat followers who participat­ed in a religious congregati­on at Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz in March have got themselves enrolled in the portal.

This was informed on Tuesday by Subrot Bagchi, Covid-19 chief spokespers­on, Odisha.

In an appeal to the Muslim community ahead of “Shab-e-Barat,” minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday said prayers and other religious rituals should be followed at homes and everyone must adhere to social distancing as part of guidelines to combat Covid-19.

Jamaat members have registered themselves with the designated Covid-19 portals. The CM has today made further appeal to all those who have not yet registered themselves with the portal,” Mr Bagchi said.

The minister, through Central Wakf Board, has also directed state wakf boards to assist the local administra­tion in implementa­tion of the lockdown completely and also appeal to people from their side to offer prayers and perform at homes. The “Shab-e-Barat” or night of forgivenes­s or day of atonement is falling on the intervenin­g night of April 8-9.

Jamaat followers had registered themselves with the designated portal and three of them were found Covid-19 positive. Subsequent active surveillan­ce of their family members and neighbours led to detection of seven more new positive cases.
