Beating all odds, an 82year-old man, Manmohan Singh, fully recovered from Covid-19 and was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday in the national capital. Mr Singh was admitted in LNJP hospital.

With two more deaths being reported in the last 24 hours in the city, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the government is currently prepared to admit 3,000 patients.

As per the Delhi government data, with 25 new cases the total number of Covid-19 patients rose to 550. Nine deaths have been reported in the city.

According to Delhi health minister Satyendra Jain, Mr Singh was discharged from hospital after his test reports came negative.

“Doctors treated him without putting him on ventilator. He was suffering from six age-related diseases. He was discharged after his two test reports came negative,” said Mr Jain.

He also visited the hospital and met Mr Singh.

Doctors said that Mr Singh, a resident of Jungpura, was admitted on April 1 and was suffering from age-related complexity like heart, BP, chest, thyroid, and others.

“Other than treatment, his will-power helped him to recover from the infection, which is known to be fatal for elderly people,” said hospital sources.

Mr Jain also made a visit to the hospital to meet Mr Singh. The doctors and paramedical staff of the hospital were also seen clapping over the exceptional recovery of the senior citizen.

Mr Kejriwal said that apart from increasing the number of beds in existing hospitals, 12,000 beds in hotels have been prepared and banquets and dharamshalas have also been included for setting up of isolation facilities.

“We have enough beds to handle 3,000 cases and if the cases cross 3,000, we will declare GTB hospital as corona hospital. We have 1,500 beds in GTB hospital, which will make it to a total of 4,500 beds. We have mapped these requirements for upto 30,000 active patients in Delhi,” Mr Kejriwal added.

The chief minister further said that serious patients who are suffering from heart diseases and patients above 50 years will be isolated in hospitals. The rest with minor symptoms will be kept in isolation in hotels and dharamshalas.

“We will need 400 ventilators and 1,200 oxygen kits for 30,000 patients,” he said.
