BJP asks cadres to reach out to migrants

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Worried that migrant labourers crisis due to Covid-19 lockdown could dent Narendra Modi led government’s image and could turn into a political fallout, BJP top brass, including party president J.P. Nadda and Union ministers, including Amit Shah, Thawarchand Gehlot, Santosh Gangwar, Dharmendra Pradhan, Smriti Irani, Piyush Goyal, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat among others, held a strategy meeting, where party leaders suggested that the party cadre along with the RSS cadre should reach out more and more to migrant labourers with help and assistance.

During the meeting, held at Mr Nadda’s official residence on Thursday, it was learnt that Mr Shah suggested that the Modi government’s special economic package — “Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” — which is aimed at benefitting farmers, labourers, MSMEs, cottage industries and tax payers, should be aggressively highlighted through various mediums by the BJP workers. Mr Nadda also held a meeting with party’s general secretaries on the issue and asked them to coordinate with state units on measures taken to assist the labourers and others.

The party leadership, it was learnt, has also asked its spokespersons to aggressively counter Oppositions’ criticism of the Modi government over the issue through television debates and has also asked its social media team to counter “negative news” by giving details of various measures taken by the Modi government to “ease the crisis” being faced by migrants labourers.
