70 test +ve at Assam quarantine facilities

Assam registered the spike of 70 Covid-19 positive cases in its quarantine facilities on Saturday, taking the total number of infected people in the state to 329.

A total of 54 patients have recovered, while there are 268 active cases. Four persons have died in the state, while three have migrated to other states.

The growing number of positive cases, mostly among those returning back to the state, has forced the state to make arrangemen­t for new dedicated Covid hospitals as one of the largest isolation centre of Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital is full of positive patients.

Informing that Kalapahar Hospital is being converted into a dedicated Covid hospital that will work under Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Assam is no longer a safe state and urged the people living outside not to return to the states if it is not necessary. In view of the swelling number of positive cases in quarantine facilities, the state health department has also converted 120 bedded TB hospital into Covid isolation facility.

He also announced that they have detected seven new positive cases for the first time in Dima Hasao hills district, which was free from pandemic so far. Two new cases were detected in Cachar district also. Another four cases were detected in Morigaon, two in Nalbari, one each in Nagaon, Hojai, Golaghat and Jorhat districts. It is significan­t that 49 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Assam on Friday.
