‘Ready to do TV shows’

Surekha Vani talks about her future prospects

- SURESH KAVIRAYANI

Actress Surekha Vani, like everyone else in the film industry, is waiting for shooting schedules to resume. The actress, who is popular on the small screen and has taken on supporting roles in many films too, says, “I have signed two Tamil films, and one of them is almost complete. I also have to start work on two Telugu films.”

During the lockdown, she has been posting TikTok videos of herself engaged in cooking and other activities in the house, keeping her fans entertained. Talking about her work, the actress, who excels in sister-in-law roles and also provides a touch of comedy, says though she isn’t fluent in Tamil, she can understand the language, and manage.

Referring to speculation in a section of the media that she has either left the film industry or started a business of her own, Surekha clarified that she has done neither. “I am not getting the kind of offers that I got earlier,” she said, adding that yesteryear actresses like Bhumika, Indraja, Simran and others are being cast for the type of roles she had been getting. She said she had an offer to participate in a game show, but did not take it up. Though she is ready to host TV shows, she needs to think about acting in serials. “Right now I am not ready,” she says. Talking about her daughter Supritha and her interest in acting, Surekha said, “It was my late husband’s wish to see our daughter as an actress. She has already acted in some short films and also has done many TikTok videos. If she gets a good offer, she is ready to act.”
