HC allows Bengal MP to provide aid Take nation into confidence over China row: Cong
A BJP MP in West Bengal has been granted permission by the Calcutta high court to distribute relief materials among the people in his constituency following his complaint of restrictions on him by the Mamata Banerjee government during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Sukanta Majumdar, the Balurghat MP, moved the high court recently alleging that he was stopped by the police on his way back home from Gangarampur, where he had gone to distribute relief material on April 23 during the nationwide lockdown.
The cops had accused him of lockdown violation. Mr Majumdar, who sat on a dharna on the road later, claim-ed he was kept under confinement at his house for days. Mr Majumdar tweeted, “I thank Calcutta High Court for allowing me the permission to serve the essentials to needy people of my constituency. Antipeople & insensitive Mamata Govt stopped me from serving the needy but we will not stop...”
The Congress on Monday asked the government to take all political parties and the country into confidence over restoration of the status quo ante on the border with China.
“It’s critical that the Government comes forward and clears the air about the reports of Chinese troops’ intrusion in Indian territory,” the party tweeted on its official handle.
However, the Congress reiterated that it is “with the government for any decisive response”. Senior leader Ahmed Patel tweeted, “We are with the government for any decisive response but BJP’s ‘brave’ response has oscillated between uninstalling Chinese apps to ‘boycotting’ Chinese collaboration.”
