Yuvraj slammed for ugly comments
The cricketer stirs controversy again, and this time over casteist slur on leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal while discussing his TikTok videos
Yuvraj Singh appears to have become controversy’s favourite child. Just over a month ago, during an informal yet live interaction with Team India opener Rohit Sharma on Instagram, Yuvi caused an outrage when he spoke about he how the new breed of ‘seniors’ in cricket were not as respect-worthy as the earlier lot.
Then, again he caused yet another flare up among his fans and followers when he supported former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi’s NGO foundation after his speech in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Obviously, neither that speech nor Yuvi’s support went down well among many Indians; many even called him an anti-national. Now, when it may seem that nothing other than the violent outbreaks around the world has everyone’s attention, Yuvi seems to have managed it again! He’s landed in fresh controversy after a video clip of his conversation with Rohit Sharma in the abovementioned live talk went viral, making an alleged casteist remark on leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal while discussing his TikTok videos.
In the video, Yuvraj says, Chahal is a “b***gi” for making the videos he makes, saying, “Yeh b***gi log ko kaam nahi hai yeh Yuzi aur isko (“These b***gi guys have no other job… this Yuzi and the other guy (Kuldeep).”
Though it appears that Yuvi made the casteist slur unintentionally, netizens don’t seem to be in a forgiving mood. They want Yuvraj to apologise to
Yuzvendra, and the hashtag “YuvarajSinghMaafiMaango” (“Yuvaraj Singh Apologise”) trending bigtime.
One female fan took to Twitter to say, “I respect Yuvraj very much in terms of cricket, But today i am shocked. How did such a big man think like this.# ?????? _ ???? _ ???? _ ????? (sic).” Another male follower says, “Hey @YUVSTRONG12 , is this your upbringing to use castiest abusive word Bh***i ? And laugh at it? What if your kids also learn this? Hey @ImRo45 , you laughed at it when Yuvi says it? Shame on you both. Apologize now Both# ?????? _ ???? _ ???? _ ????? # Apologise_Rohit (sic).”
