- MADHUSUDAN SAHOO

It's internal promotion time at the four stateowned general insurance companies, with as many as five general managers (GMs) and 27 deputy general managers (DGMs) in the pipeline for elevation in the promotion exercise that begins on June 10.

Apex body General Insurers Public Sector Association (Gipsa) will be screening the candidates for promotion.

"The newly appointed chairman of Gipsa, Girish Radhakrishnan will steer the promotion exercise via online from June 10 at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad," a top source said.

The Gipsa, created by the four public sector general insurers, overseas internal promotions till the GM level while the Depart-ment of Financial Ser-vices, under the finance ministry, selects those above the GM rank.

The appointments have assumed some urgency as five GMs are retiring this month, including Siddharth Pradhan (director of National Insurance), Reena Bhatnagar (GM, GIC Re), R.M. Singh (GM, New India Assurance), S.K. Samantaray (National Insurance). Oriental Insurance GM Soumya Mukherjee has retired on April 30.

"The GIPSA is expected to select five GMs of Scale-VII, 27 new DGMs of Scale-VI, two in-situ GMs and nine in-situ DGMs for different state-owned insurers. Under the insitu arrangement, the officials are given all the facilities as enjoyed by the officials a notch above, still they are not promoted as their residual service is less than two years," the source said.
