Tragedy strikes Bollywood. Brilliant actor Sushant Singh Rajput, 34 years old, died by committing suicide on June 14. The film MS Dhoni — the Untold story, in which he played the former Indian cricket team captain, was one among his most successful films. He garnered critical acclaim for his role in Dibakar Banerjee’s 2015 movie, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. Kedarnath and Chichohre were his other hit films. Preliminary investigations reveal that Sushant had friends over at his residence at Bandra, on Saturday. They claim the actor seemed fine the previous night. However, in the morning, when they knocked at his door he did not open it. They broke open the door with the help of the domestic help. The police are recording their statements. The news shocked the film industry. Anushka Sharma, Sushant’s co-star in the film PK, tweeted, “Sushant, you were too young and brilliant to have gone so soon. I’m so sad and upset knowing that we lived in an environment that could not help you through any troubles you have had.” Ekta Kapoor was shocked too. She had just finalised a new show with Sushant.

Ravi Prakash, a friend of Sushant is devastated. “He was staying with his sister Ruby for a few days. He was doing well in films. There was nothing wrong with his professional front. Naturally, all of us are plagued by the same question: ‘why?’”

Some sources claim that the late actor was “feeling low” for the past six months. “And though he was undergoing treatment for it, because of the lockdown, he could not interact much with his doctor, and his medicines could not be monitored either,” one of the sources shares.

Some days ago on his Instagram timeline, Sushant had posted a black and white picture, each, of his late mother and him. The now-possibly cryptic caption reads, “Blurred past evaporating from teardrops, Unending dreams carving an arc of smile, And a fleeting life, negotiating between the two... #??? (sic)”. That was on 3 June. He did not post anything on after that on his social media. Police sources say that as they have not yet recovered a suicide note, they may have to check his phone and other gadgets to check for clues of his action. It is reported that the cops have taken all his medicines and other medical papers so that they can investigate.

Sushant Singh’s father KK Singh, lives in Patna, and his other siblings are three sisters, one of whom is Mitu Singh a statelevel cricketer and is older to him.

The late actor had visited his Patna home last year on 11 May and had even done a puja in the local temple. He had already endured two deaths in his family, when his mother died in 2002 and one of his sisters died before that. A statement released on behalf of his family read, “It pains us to share that Sushant Singh Rajput is no longer with us. We request his fans to keep him in their thoughts and celebrate his life... Help us maintain privacy at this moment of grief.”
